My name is Ken Youmans and I offer professional, efficient and detail-oriented building maintenance support. I have significant experience in carpentry, painting, and mechanical problem solving. Here’s how I came by that experience:
I grew up in Haddon Township NJ and later, Mount Laurel NJ, graduating from Lenape Regional HS. Most of my family were mechanics or builders. My dad’s father was a machinist in the Merchant Marines. My mom’s family were in the construction business, becoming developers locally (they built many of the row homes in Camden and Gloucester) and later more upscale projects in North Carolina and Nevada. Presently I have a nephew who runs a painting company in North Jersey called Tall Paul’s Painting.
After high school I trained in a vo-tech program as a welder, and worked as a welder-fitter for a commercial mechanical company in Dallas Texas. When I returned to the Delaware Valley, many manufacturers were shutting down to send operations off-shore, but luckily through a government program I found work with a home renovations company. This is where I furthered my carpentry and building maintenance skills, gaining exposure to plumbing and electrical repairs.
Parallel to all this was an artistic calling. My interest in music, drama and film led me to full scholarship in the NYU film program. To make a very, very long story a wee bit shorter, let’s say of the many rewards I enjoyed for my artistic endeavors, few were the kind you deposit in a bank . It was my tools and mechanical skills that kept my kept belly full and my landlord friendly.
Time marched on, and so finding myself with a mortgage, family responsibilities and a house in Moorestown NJ, I found my way, as many a beleaguered artist has before me, to advertising and marketing, in my case, largely in the musical instruments business.
So if you’ve read this far (your patience is appreciated) you may have no trouble seeing Ken-Do Handyman Services as a circle back to my point of origin. The long strange trip inspires gratitude for my talents and a desire to be of service.
